- Diamond Head is another can’t miss feature of the Islands. On the southern tip of Oahu there is the Diamond Head volcanic crater that sparkles with calcite crystals. The British sailors who spotted it in the 19th century saw the sparkle of the crystals which they thought were diamonds. Hence the name.
