Anyone who has ever experienced the joys of riding an all terrain vehicle or ATV will be in the proper mindset for enjoying one of the many Hawaiian ATV tours that are available. If you are from a state or area that regulates ATVing, it may come as a surprise to you that Hawaii has no state law regulating ATV use and there is no state agency regulating ATV usage. For some ATVers this may seem like a dream come true. However, this does not mean that anything goes in the world of Hawaiian ATV adventures. Tour companies go out of their way to protect visitors who want to see Hawaii from the ATV perspective.

The primary ATV tours in Hawaii are located on Hawaii and Kauai Islands but some of the other islands have ATV tours as well.. The double whammy effect of a Hawaii ATV rental is that not only do you have the excitement of riding an ATV but you get to see the Islands from the most scenic perspective. There is another aspect that is worth mentioning and that is that ATV riding can be an excellent family excursion.

Here are some of the amazing sights you can see on a Hawaii ATV tour.

  • In Kauai, there are waterfall tours that allow for the ATV experience and swimming breaks. There are tours into the Koloa Sugar mill, which is a holdover from the days when sugar was a big Hawaiian cash crop.
  • On the Big Island, there are ATV tours that take you through the private ranches, volcanoes, waterfalls, and along the coastline.
  • Oahu has the distinction of being the place where Jurassic Park was created and there are ATV tours through the Kualoa Ranch where Jurassic Park was.
  • There are ATV tours on Maui that include a 20-miles trip down the Haleakala Volcano.

In spite of the lack of state regulations, the individual tour companies have their own regulations regarding ATV rentals. Typical regulations restrict riders to 16 years old and above. Also, riders usually have weight restrictions with the maximum weight being 240 or 250 pounds. Other standard restrictions include proper footgear which usually means no sandals, flip flops, or other open-toed shoes. Also many tours will not allow pregnant women to ride the ATV and they are cautious about taking people who are in poor health. There is a certain level of agility required.
