Over at the Waikiki Beachcomber, the Magic of Polynesia features John Hirokawa, the King of Wow. John grew up on Oahu and started his career when he was six. When he was twelve, he had the chance to be on stage with David Copperfield. He’s now considered a performer with the same status as Copperfield, Harry Blackstone, Doug Henning and Siegfried and Roy. Among his awards, he has the Merlin Award for originality from the International Magicians Society.
This is one area on one island and already you can see how startlingly amazing dinner shows are in Hawaii. If the antics of the Society of Seven and Hirokawa’s vanishing act are not enough, think about Don Ho. Yes, Don Ho still performs at the Waikiki Beachcomber. If you have never heard him sing, you are definitely young. Find some of his music and give it a listen. Some suggestions are “Tiny Bubbles,” “I’ll Remember You,” and “The Hawaiian Wedding Song.” His daughter Hoku sometimes sings with her famous father too.
