Hawaii theater and shows is just another feature of the magical islands in the Pacific Ocean. There is one more reason that may not even have been on the top of your list of things to do in the sun-drenched paradise of this archipelago and that is take in the Hawaiian theater and shows.
Well there are some amazing shows and theaters in Hawaii. Here are a few – the Theatre Ulalena, Warren and Annabelle’s, Cirque Polynesia, Kupanaha, the Society of Seven and the Magic of Polynesia. The Akebono Theater is the oldest theater in the islands, first opened in 1919. While it used to be a movie theater it is now a center for musicals and plays.
The Cirque Polynesia is the only proper cirque show in the islands. Located at the at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa on the Kaanapali Coast it is open to the sky and part of the Maui Moon Theatre. The Cirque Polynesia is a 75-minute show. Among its startling features are two of the sixth and seventh generations of the famous Flying Wallendas.
The Society of Seven is a variety troupe that started out in the sixties as The Fabulous Echoes. In 1968 the troupe changed its name to The Society of Seven. The following year, the groups opened at the Main Showroom of the Outrigger Waikiki Hotel. It was a four-week gig. They are still there. They’ve even outlasted Don Ho as the longest playing Waikiki act in the same venue.
These are but two of the outstanding performances you can see in Hawaii. And there is the classic Hawaii Theater in Honolulu. It was built in 1922 as a vaudeville house. It closed but was revamped in the spring of 1996. It has 1,400 seats and is a multipurpose facility where concerts and musical theater events are held. It is also the site of the Hawaii International Film Festival. Speaking of the Film Festival, it began in 1981 and is considered the major cinematic event in the Pacific. Each year, 80,000 fans attend events at the Festival.
The entertainment in Hawaii brings together the best performers in the world from cutting edge films to the Flying Wallendas to musicals, comedies and plays. Not only is Hawaii beautiful, it is also talented and artistic.
