Weather in Hawaii

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

Being one of the state’s most desirable features, Hawaii weather is actually quite diverse. While the beaches in the state may be a major pull, these beaches would be nothing if it were not for the fantastic weather and climate in the area. The abundance of warm sunshine is what makes the area such a popular and attractive vacation spot. A key feature of the weather in Hawaii is the fact that very seldom is it ever violent and stormy. Of course, storms occur on occasion but they are much less frequent than the appearance of the sun glistening off the sand.

As mentioned, the daily atmospheric conditions in Hawaii are quite diverse and can vary from place to place. A common saying in the state is “if you don’t like the weather where you are, drive a few miles and it’s bound to change” which is actually the case. As with anywhere, climatic conditions are affected by a number of factors, one of which is elevation. Elevation has perhaps the most prevalent effects on weather on the islands that make up Hawaii as is evidenced by the relatively cold temperatures witnessed on the slopes of the Kilauea Volcano and the reasonably warm temperatures common in Kona.

When packing for a vacation on the islands, be sure to pack a number of light articles that can be layered. Of course this depends on where in Hawaii you plan to take a vacation. If you intend on venturing up into the mountains then it is dvised that you pack for layering as it can get cold in the mountainous areas of Hawaii. If you are vacationing along the coastline you should pack light clothing, including plenty of swimwear and light shirts, as the coastline tends to be very warm. Rarely though is the heat ever uncomfortable as it can be enjoyed all year long. It is advised that you be sure to bring plenty of sunscreen also.
